3 Tips for Building a Better Electric Motorcycle
Dec 4th
1. Browse EValbum for some inspiration.
Ev Album is a great site for anyone interested in building an EV. With the ability to search by make, model, or even compoents Evalbum should be your first stop. It will help to see whats out thereand working well for people. Take sometime to browse and you’ll find some pretty interesting stuff. My personal favorite, Tom Sepe’s “Whirlygig Emoto”.

2. Don’t look for parts, have parts find you.
Here is a way to setup RSS feeds for your craigslist searches. So when someone posts a new ad with what your looking for, you’ll be the first to know.
3. The original Manufacturer is your friend.
The most complicated part of building and electric motorcycle is wiring the damn thing up. Each motorcycle conversion will be unique, but controller manufactures to a great job of publishing PDF’s of wire schematics. So save yourself some time and download the manual. Below is a link to the manuals for most popular controllers.
If you can’t find your below also try a Google search for Filetype:PDF “Name of your controller”.

How to Build an Electric Motorcycle
Aug 10th
The Goal of this project was to convert a classic motorcycle into a clean, quiet, electric motorcycle that would run on battery power and reduce the amount of automobile pollution caused by my short to mid-range driving trips. I started this project after watching ”Who Killed The Electric Car”, realizing that I was 1 of the 80% of Americans that drives less than 20 miles a day. Frist I considered a car conversion, but it fell outside my budget. So after some inspiration from electric motorcycles conversions on EV ALBUM, I thought a motorcycle sounded fun and economical.
So fast forward 4 months, and I now have built the ”Electric Dream”! Clean, Quiet, and best of all not a drop of Gas! Continue reading and I will take you step-by-step through the conversion process.
